hide-chan ramen

hit or miss.

my first bowl traditional hakata tonkatsu ramen was delicious: layered but not dominant soup flavors, tender chashu, and just the right amount of shmaltz with firm noodles.

my second bowl of "zen-nose deluxe" ramen-- i could be at fault for ordering such a thing-- arrived lukewarm, with flat soup, covered with a disorganized mound of toppings that included a cold egg and cold chashu.

Acme. NYC.

Either Pete Wells is very wrong or something has changed since his visit to Acme, whose flavor palette is innovative but not yet mature. It does not help that both the wait staff and music are more noisy than pleasant.

tanoshi sushi

kenji alt reviewed tanoshi sushi, a small restaurant serving omakase sushi, on the upper east side. it's the "best omakase" he's had. unfortunately and fortunately, the location is relatively remote by nyc standards, far east on york avenue, but only 3 blocks away from my work.

Welcome back NYNY, I am ready to eat

nytimes reviews a recently opened restaurant on the edge of greenpoint, an "interplanetary" location indeed, when it comes to restaurants in nyc. believe it or not, but i've actually walked these streets years ago, when i lived in astoria. another revelation besides sara kramer's new take on middle easetern food is the list of "glasserie friends." i am ready to eat.
